I’ve had a flurry of commissions from Devon Life Magazine recently. What I love most about writing features is the diversity of the subjects. As an example, the four recent features have covered:

  • British grown flowers in Broadhembury
  • Restoration of a jewellers shop in Sidmouth
  • Herbal tea making near Newton Poppleford
  • Textile art in my own village of Buckerell

Writing features takes time. The reward isn’t monetary, believe me. It’s the (perhaps old fashioned) satisfaction of seeing my work in print. And of being able to highlight individuals and businesses in the local area who are doing wonderful things.

I often say that I have an inquisitive mind, and I always want to learn new things. And yes, while my regular work in PR frequently requires me to understand new topics quickly, feature writing is a more gentle way stretching the mind!
