Chilcotts Auctioneers

Working with family business Chilcotts Auctioneers since 2014 (their 10th anniversary) has given me a real understanding of the world of antiques and collectibles. So many interesting items come up for auction, from medals bringing families back together, to Japanese internment camp diaries and Ernest Shackleton’s whalebone! Highest value story was an amazing moon flask, discovered in East Devon, which fetched nearly a quarter of a million pounds at auction in Hong Kong. I also loved interviewing ceramicist Lawson Rudge for a feature in Devon Life, a real honour.
I regularly secure coverage for Chilcotts in the Western Morning News, regional papers, Antiques Trade Gazette, ITV Westcountry and the BBC. The stories are always so interesting, whether I’m writing about vintage motorbikes or silver spoons!

EXAMPLES

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex; you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.”
“I think if you do something and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next.”
