Devon has the most amazing people and businesses committed to green issues, whilst still understanding the need to be profitable. They make make twine from Dartmoor sheep, run environmentally friendly self catering cottages, sell locally sourced foods, encourage students to think about the environment, or make wonderful mattresses using organic materials. Whatever their business, they do it in an ethical way.
Devon Environmental Business Initiative (DEBI) is a charitable networking organisation set up to help them achieve their aims.
I supported DEBI with marketing and PR for about a year. The idea was to increase awareness of the charity, its ethos and the annual awards event using a variety of channels.
I ran social media channels for increased engagements, sent out email marketing to PR and marketing companies across the region to encourage them to enter clients for the awards, secured coverage in the press including newspapers and magazines. I was also involved in the awards launch at Plymouth Aquarium. The 2014 Awards held at the Met Office were a great success.
After the contract, DEBI invited me to stay on as a member of the board. I sit on the marketing committee and am now actively involved in the awards process. Long may the relationship continue!
