Otter Garden Centres is a family business with five garden centres, the largest in Ottery St Mary and Plymouth. The business is full of great stories for PR and social media, from an SOS call from gardening guru Alan Titchmarsh, to Great British Bake Off contestant Glenn Cosby flouncing around in full pantomime dame outfit at the opening of the popular annual Santa’s Grotto.
The business supports many charities without feeling the need to make a song and dance of it, and it is always a pleasure to sneak a little PR in for them – as well as their charity of the year (different in each centre) they always donate prizes to schools, community projects and fundraising events. I’ve helped them enter awards and celebrate their 50th birthday.
Facebook and Twitter accounts are very busy, with regular giveaways on Facebook attracting lots of interest. There’s a lot of engagement and many queries to answer – I’m becoming an expert at identifying plants from grainy photos sent via social media. I also support the Otter Garden Centres website, writing blogs, adding events and special offers.
