Last month one of my clients forwarded me an email he’d received from DEBI (Devon Environmental Business Initiative) about a job opportunity. I knew of DEBI as I had previously entered clients for their annual environmental awards. The organisation is a charity, set up to ‘inform, support and motivate businesses, of all sizes and from all sectors in Devon, to adopt environmentally sound and profitable business policies.’

The new role of PR and Comms specialist caught my eye. I am genuinely interested in businesses striving for environmental best practice, and with my background in renewable energy it seemed an ideal opportunity to make the most of my knowledge – and to learn more.

After meeting with DEBI Director Victoria Davison and Vice Chair Peter Morgan from Paignton Zoo, I was thrilled to be offered the position. Now I am really looking forward to getting involved with DEBI’s aims and helping to raise the charity’s profile. I only have two days a month to achieve great things, but where there’s a will there’s a way!

The 2014 awards are to be launched in June and as it’s DEBI’s 21st birthday I’ll be working hard to make sure that more companies than ever enter. and get the chance to shout about their environmental achievements.
